Fuck, I am really worked up about this now. Yesterday this thing spread across Tumblr. It was a screed attributed to Bill Nye The Science Guy that uses abelist and misogynist language. It was heralded as the ultimate Bill Nye moment even though it used the kind of language Nye would never use. It was obviously fake, but the Internet is full of gullible people who want to believe that their idols agree with everything they think.
I’m not going to link to it because it’s a piece of shit and the people who made it are pieces of shit and everyone who believed it is .. well, if you believed it you should take a shower because you smell like shit. You may not actually be shit, but you smell like it.
It came from a “satire” site that doesn’t present satire as much as hackneyed crap that any eight year old could come up with. It’s a site like The Onion except bereft of skill, insight, or genuine humor.
And so I blame The Onion, as well as comedians such as Louis C.K. and George Carlin and Richard Pryor and many others. The reason that I blame that site and those guys is because they make edgy humor look so fucking easy that any angry jerkoff thinks that they can be the next big thing without even trying.
I wish that all comedians were like Conan O’Brien. He makes humor look easy, but also sometimes takes us behind the scenes to see the team of people behind his humor. He let’s us know that it is not easy, not accidental, and not something that any loser can just do without training and experience.
I don’t claim to be the funniest guy ever, or the best writer, or the most knowledgeable about how entertainment works. But when I do attempt to be funny it’s not just some crass appeal to the lowest common denominator. And at least I try to be objective about my level of ability. I would never dare to attach my personality defects to someone with the intellect and grace of Bill Nye The Science Guy, unless I was trying to denigrate one of my idols. And why the fuck would I do that?
Appreciating humor and creating humor are two very different things. Just because you can do one, that doesn’t mean you can do both. Do you think you’re funny? What reason do you have to think that? Because you might not be a funny person. You might just be some jackass dragging the world down to your level.
Apropos of nothing.

Wait, bashing Kim Kardashian and her “rise to fame” is slut shaming now? Okay.lol yes because its as simple as a rise to fame. no other factors involved.
Yeah, you’re probably right. I’m sure it has nothing to do with her dad being O.J.’s attorney or her socialite status and everything to do with inborn talents she worked hard all her life to develop and master. You know, since all “rises to fame” are apparently equivalent.
But whatever. Stick up for Kim. I’m sure she appreciates it.
IMDB Bio of the Day: Much to the Internets’ delight, IMDB writer Jon Hopwood profiled Kim Kardashian in a thoughtful, well-argued roast of an IMDB bio.
Choice highlights:
Kim Kardashian is emblematic of the shallowness of American culture in the first two decades of the new millennium. While some cultural critics call her the prime avatar of the “famous for being famous” faux celebrity crowd, she along with Paris Hilton is a new breed of cat whose celebrity comes from the release of a sex tape and the canny exploitation of the resulting publicity. Like her good friend Miss Hilton (their relationship predates Kim’s “celebrity”, Kardashian is possessed of photogenic good looks but is short of any other discernible talents outside of the bedroom. Both expanded their celebrity by becoming reality TV “stars”.
Porn pioneer Harry Reems has commented how surprised he is at how porn stars like Jenna Jameson are accepted now in mainstream culture. His life was ruined by his participation in porn in its “Golden Years”. As for Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, the release (accidental or not-so-accidental) of boudoir tapes didn’t result in shame but celebration. America like ancient Rome seems to have shuffled off the moral coil of virtue of the Republic and is now enjoying its Imperial self in an orgy of ignominy. It’s always more fun on the toboggan ride down the hill than it was schlepping up it in the first place.
Thankfully, a few screen grabs were snagged before the site was alerted to Hopwood’s shenanigans and took the bio down. Well played, Hopwood.

Yeah, man. Why can’t we go back to the good ol’ days when women should be shamed for having sex and men aren’t punished for releasing private videos of them doing so? How’re women going to learn their place in this world? I mean shit.
oh thank G-d there are men in this world still willing to slut-shame dem bitches, I was all about to be like “where have all the cowboys gone” but then Jon Hopwood rode in on his misogyny horse
I’m not even a fan of Kim Kardashian, but I’m willing to die on the hill of defending her because holy fuck am I sick of Kim Kardashian and any other girl with a bullshit reality tv career being held up as “emblematic of the shallowness of American culture.” Of all the horrible human beings who have risen to actual real world power in 21st America, a woman whose convinced people to pay to look at her is hardly emblematic.
thedailywhat really secretly hates women, doesn’t it? (nvr 4get their “DON’T YOU REMEMBER YOUR OWN ABUSE, RIHANNA? LET ME LINK YOU TO PICTURES/REPORTS OF YOUR OWN ABUSE.”)
there is nothing secret about TDW’s hatred for women, especially women who get money
Wait, bashing Kim Kardashian and her “rise to fame” is slut shaming now?
